What is Runesocketing?[]
Runesocketing is the process of taking powerful Runes and embedding them into swords to give them special effects, very much in the same way Trinkets and Pets do.
Alchemy[]
Prerequisites: Build the Blacksmith Shop | Build the Alchemist Shop
Location: The Commons
What is Alchemy?
Alchemy is the art of disenchanting, crafting, and combining runes. If you've built the Alchemist Shop in the Commons, Ellesandra the Alchemist, and a non-player character (NPC), standing in the SW corner of the shop, will answer your basic Alchemy questions. Ellesandra will also reward you with alchemy tokens that you can use to unlock items for the shop when you complete her daily quests.
Alchemy Lessons[]
The Alchrafter Runification Certification Program
Release Date: Sept. 5, 2019
The Helpful Fellow in Ellesandra’s Alchemy Shop has put together an Alchrafter Runification Certification program to help novices get a better handle on alchemy. The program is broken into 63 daily lessons and tests.
Once completed, you'll be given a certificate you can hang on your ranch which increase your odds of getting more or rarer Powder Vials when you disenchant runes. Go to the Alchemy Lessons page for details.
NEW - How to Create a Perfect Rune
This guide was created for novices who have a basic knowledge of Rune crafting, but need a little help getting started. Here you will find tips, and an easy to follow walk-through for creating a perfect (or not so perfect) rune.
Runesocketing - Getting Started[]
Prerequisite: Blacksmith Shop
Location: The Commons
Runesocketing - A powerful way to customize your character!
Upon building the Blacksmith Shop in The Commons, Botho the Smith will give you a crash course in Runesocketing.
Sockets[]
All players start out with one Socket. The other two sockets unlock at levels 90 and 140 respectively. If you meet the level requirement, you can buy the sockets for Gold. The amount of Gold increases for each socket.
Socket # | Costs | Requirement |
---|---|---|
1 | Free | Level 1 |
2 | 50,000 | Level 90 |
3 | 100,000 | Level 140 |
Runes[]
Runes come in all types and strengths. They can be found in bushes throughout Bushwhackia, in quest satchels, or by performing a daily Rune scavenging quest for Botho's apprentice, Negdry in The Commons.
When you want to equip a rune on your sword, talk to Botho the Blacksmith in The Commons.
Duration[]
- Runes begin expiring as soon as you socket them into any sword, whether or not is is equipped.
- Speak to the Blacksmith in the Commons to see how much time is left on your runes before they expire.
- When one or more of your Runes expire, you will get a warning (in red) above your lower right toolbar, indicating that your Sword has an empty socket(s).
- You can replace a rune that is currently socketed. You will get a message reading "Warning! Putting a Rune in this socket will destroy the existing Rune! Do you want to continue?" If you click "Continue," the equipped Rune will be destroyed, and the new Rune will be equipped in its place.
Rune Inventory Limit[]
- The max number of unsocketed runes you can have in your inventory is 200.
- You can view your current unsocketed rune capacity on upper right side of the disenchant dialog (eg. 50/200 Runes).
- There is a “You have too many runes!” warning on the rune crafting dialog that says how many you have.
- Derringer (Spring Thicket SBA #59) will not give you a perfect rune if you have reached your limit of 200 unsocketed runes. You will get a warning that says, “You have too many runes!” Go back to the Alchemy Shop in The Commons, and disenchant a few runes, then return to Derringer to collect your Perfect Rune reward.
Categories[]
There are 2 categories of runes: Basic and Crafted.
- Basic Runes are runes that are found by whacking throughout Bushwhackia, or rewarded in quests.
- Crafted Runes are runes that have been broken down into their base Powder form, and then combined in new and inventive ways! Crafting is the only way to get some of the more rare Rune effects.

FYI: Derringer will not give you a perfect rune if you have reached your limit of 200 unsocketed runes. You will get a warning that says, “You have too many runes!” Go back to the Alchemy Shop in The Commons, and disenchant a few runes, then return to Derringer to collect your Perfect Rune reward.

Advanced Disenchanting
If you want to create the rare powders (white, grey, black) you have to disenchant Runes of Quality 2 or higher. The higher the Rune Quality up to the max of 20, the better your chances are of disenchanting more rare powders. The only way to increase the Quality of your runes is to Combine them.
Advanced Combining
How it works:
Strategies
"Ultimate" Combo rune example: 30% Mana / 30% Void 31 days 12 hours
"Perfect" Rune example: 60% 15 Days
"Cheap" Combo Rune example: 30% Mana / 10% Gem 10 days
Developer's Guide to Disenchanting
Cut and Pasted (with permission) from a discussion with a Dev When you disenchant a rune, two things are important: the quality of the rune (a number between 1 and 20), and the effects on the rune. The quality is important for determining roughly how many dusts you're going to get. The higher the quality, the more dusts you've got a shot at getting. In general, the quality of a small rune is 1, a medium rune is 2, and a large rune is 4. Some of the crafted runes have higher or lower quality scores. Combining two runes simply combines their quality score. If you combine two large runes, you get a rune with a quality of 8. If you combined that rune with a medium rune (2), you'd have a rune with a quality of 10. You could potentially get 10 small dusts out of that combined rune, but it would likely be less (see below). The rune effects determine (to a certain extent) which dusts you get. Generally whatever dusts go into making a rune with a certain effect, those are the dusts you'll get out. The rare dusts, however, can potentially come out of a any rune with a quality of 2 or higher. When disenchanting, the server eats away at the quality of a rune one point at a time, seeing if each quality should give a dust. For each 1 quality eaten, you have a roughly 50% chance of getting a small dust based on the rune effects. If your rune has 2 or more quality left, you have a roughly 25% chance of getting any of the four rare dusts, at the cost of 2 quality. Runes must always disenchant into at least one powder. That last bit is a little confusing, so let me give you an example. Let's say you disenchanted that 10 quality rune that you combined earlier. And let's say that all three runes you combined had different effects - plus mana odds, plus power odds, and plus max energy. Here is the logic loop it would go through: 10 quality left -> 2+ quality 25% rare? -> no -> 50% powder? -> yes -> possible powders: blue, red, green, white -> red powder -> -1 quality Powders: red, dark gray x2, blue, green That got a little longer winded than I intended it to. Hopefully you got something out of all that and can translate it into something suitable for the wiki. :p Cheers, |
