What is Runesocketing?[]

Runesocketing is the process of taking powerful Runes and embedding them into swords to give them special effects, very much in the same way Trinkets and Pets do.

Alchemy[]

Prerequisites: Build the Blacksmith Shop | Build the Alchemist Shop
Location: The Commons

What is Alchemy?
Alchemy is the art of disenchanting, crafting, and combining runes. If you've built the Alchemist Shop in the Commons, Ellesandra the Alchemist, and a non-player character (NPC), standing in the SW corner of the shop, will answer your basic Alchemy questions. Ellesandra will also reward you with alchemy tokens that you can use to unlock items for the shop when you complete her daily quests.

Alchemy Lessons[]

The Alchrafter Runification Certification Program
Release Date: Sept. 5, 2019

The Helpful Fellow in Ellesandra’s Alchemy Shop has put together an Alchrafter Runification Certification program to help novices get a better handle on alchemy. The program is broken into 63 daily lessons and tests.

Once completed, you'll be given a certificate you can hang on your ranch which increase your odds of getting more or rarer Powder Vials when you disenchant runes. Go to the Alchemy Lessons page for details.

NEW - How to Create a Perfect Rune
This guide was created for novices who have a basic knowledge of Rune crafting, but need a little help getting started. Here you will find tips, and an easy to follow walk-through for creating a perfect (or not so perfect) rune.

Runesocketing - Getting Started[]

Prerequisite: Blacksmith Shop
Location: The Commons

Runesocketing - A powerful way to customize your character!
Upon building the Blacksmith Shop in The Commons, Botho the Smith will give you a crash course in Runesocketing.

Sockets[]

All players start out with one Socket. The other two sockets unlock at levels 90 and 140 respectively. If you meet the level requirement, you can buy the sockets for Gold Gold. The amount of Gold increases for each socket.

Socket # Costs Requirement
1 Free Level 1
2 50,000 Gold Level 90
3 100,000 Gold Level 140

Runes[]

Runes come in all types and strengths. They can be found in bushes throughout Bushwhackia, in quest satchels, or by performing a daily Rune scavenging quest for Botho's apprentice, Negdry in The Commons

When you want to equip a rune on your sword, talk to Botho the Blacksmith in The Commons.

Duration[]

  • Runes begin expiring as soon as you socket them into any sword, whether or not is is equipped.
  • Speak to the Blacksmith in the Commons to see how much time is left on your runes before they expire.
  • When one or more of your Runes expire, you will get a warning (in red) above your lower right toolbar, indicating that your Sword has an empty socket(s).
  • You can replace a rune that is currently socketed. You will get a message reading "Warning! Putting a Rune in this socket will destroy the existing Rune! Do you want to continue?" If you click "Continue," the equipped Rune will be destroyed, and the new Rune will be equipped in its place.

Rune Inventory Limit[]

  • The max number of unsocketed runes you can have in your inventory is 200.
  • You can view your current unsocketed rune capacity on upper right side of the disenchant dialog (eg. 50/200 Runes).
  • There is a “You have too many runes!” warning on the rune crafting dialog that says how many you have.
  • Derringer (Spring Thicket SBA #59) will not give you a perfect rune if you have reached your limit of 200 unsocketed runes. You will get a warning that says, “You have too many runes!” Go back to the Alchemy Shop in The Commons, and disenchant a few runes, then return to Derringer to collect your Perfect Rune reward.

Categories[]

There are 2 categories of runes: Basic and Crafted.

  • Basic Runes are runes that are found by whacking throughout Bushwhackia, or rewarded in quests.
  • Crafted Runes are runes that have been broken down into their base Powder form, and then combined in new and inventive ways! Crafting is the only way to get some of the more rare Rune effects.

The Alchemist[]

Ellesandra is The Alchemist. Speak to her inside the Alchemist Building. She has items for sale in her Bush Bucks Store and the Alchemy Tokens Store.

You can also ask her questions about Alchemic Runecrafting. Select a tab for a list of items for sale.

Stations[]

There are three stations that are used for Alchemy. Select a tab for the description, and how to use each station.

Derringer the Rune Wizard[]

Derringer's Perfect Rune[]

Solving the puzzle in the Spring Thicket SBA #59 frees a fellow named Derringer. He offers you the opportunity to make a Perfect Rune of your choice at a cost of 20 small vials of the appropriately colored powder. This rune lasts 30 days, 12 hours, and has a bonus of 60%

Note: There is a 150 day (5 months) cool-down. If you have the Timey Wimey watch (trinket) equipped, the time will be reduced to 135 days.

FYI: Derringer will not give you a perfect rune if you have reached your limit of 200 unsocketed runes. You will get a warning that says, “You have too many runes!” Go back to the Alchemy Shop in The Commons, and disenchant a few runes, then return to Derringer to collect your Perfect Rune reward.

Derringer's Rune Recipes[]

Advanced Disenchanting
To fully understand disenchanting, you need to see the working relationship between the quality of the rune, the stages or levels of disenchantment and finally the interaction of how rare powders affect the formula. See Dev. Justin Sock's "Guide to Disenchanting" on this page below. However, the following table, will attempt to capture the numerical values attached to various Runes.

If you want to create the rare powders (white, grey, black) you have to disenchant Runes of Quality 2 or higher. The higher the Rune Quality up to the max of 20, the better your chances are of disenchanting more rare powders. The only way to increase the Quality of your runes is to Combine them.

Rune Size Rune Quality

Max # of Powder

Min # of Powder
Small Basic 1 1 1
Medium Basic 2 2 1
Large Basic 4 4 1
Scavenged 2 2 1

Advanced Combining
Combined runes can be VERY powerful! For example, if you craft 5 Large Runes of the Void (-10% Nothing), and then combine them together, you can get an Augmented Large Rune of the Void that reduces your chance to win Nothing by 50% and lasts for a couple of weeks!

How it works:

  • The Combined Rune grants the bonuses of the two runes added together. Ex. Combining 2 Small Mana Runes you crafted yourself - see Crafting Station below - will give +6% Mana Drop Odds.
  • The duration is the duration of the rune in the left slot plus half of the duration of the rune in the right slot. Ex. The Augmented Small Mana Rune we just made will last for 3 days + 3/2 days = 3 + 1,5 = 4,5 => 4 days and 12 hours.
  • The quality of the new rune is the quality of the rune in the left slot but augmented. The icon the combined rune gets is the same as the rune in the left slot. Ex. Combining a Small Rune and a Medium Rune will result in an Augmented Small Rune with the icon of a Small Rune. Combining a Medium Rune and a Small Rune will result in an Augmented Medium Rune with the icon of a Medium Rune.
  • Each combine has a gold cost and a % chance of success. The gold cost goes up and the chance of success goes down based on the nature of the combined rune. If the rune you're going to create has a quality above a certain threshold, you will not be able to combine the runes.
  1. The cost to combine runes is 800 Gold * the # of Small Powder Vials needed to make the runes being combined. Ex. 2 Medium Runes take 4 Small Powder Vials to craft. Combining them costs 4 * 800 Gold = 3,200 Gold
  2. The base odds to successfully combine Runes is 105% - (5% * the # of Small Powder Vials needed to make the runes being combined). Ex. The Augmented Medium Rune described above would have base odds of 105% - (5% * 4) = 105% - 20% = 85% Odds of Success to be made.
  3. If you are merging two Augmented Runes, the costs and odds are based on the TOTAL # of Small Powder Vials involved in the creation of the new rune. Ex. Combining two of the Augmented Medium Runes described in #1 & #2 would have a cumulative total of 8 Small Powder Vials within it. This means the base cost would be 6,400 Gold and have initial odds of success of 65%
  4. If the initial odds of success are less than or equal to 0%, the runes cannot be merged, even with Luck Spheres. Ex. A rune cannot have more than 21 Small Powder Vials worth of Runes in it's final form.
  5. EXCEPTIONS: Even though 20 (common, black and grey) small vials worth of runes can fit in one combined rune, 4 Grandest Runes can also fit exactly in one combined rune ("exactly" meaning that they do not leave room even for a simple small rune to be combined too). For the time being, the assumption of how this works is that White Powder might work a bit differently. note: a Grandest Rune requires 1 large common vial and 1 large white vial. This gives 16 common and 16 white small vials in the resulting combined rune. It is yet a question of how many Small Efficiency/Shinies/Mystic Runes (1 common, 1 black, 1 white small vial required for those) can fit in one combined rune.

Strategies

  • If you wanted to play with something like 1 rune of Less Nothings + 2 runes of Puzzle or Quest, build them like 3 runes of "Augmented rune of 3% mana, 21% less nothings, 18% Quest". This keeps your runes from running out at different times.
  • Buy all the luck spheres you can and combine them to 40% luck (or 50% or 60% if you're feeling unlucky)
  • Dust all your runes until you have 0 runes in your inventory (Leave event ones if you want), it's just easier to have it cleaned out.

"Ultimate" Combo rune example: 30% Mana / 30% Void 31 days 12 hours

  • This will cost ~1mil in gold
  • Craft up exactly 20 small runes
  • 10 mana / 10 less nothings for this example
  • Go to the combining station and combine any two runes
  • You will get an "augmented" rune
  • Put the augmented rune in the LEFT slot and add in another rune in the RIGHT slot
  • The rune in the LEFT slot is the main rune - it will keep 100% of its time duration
  • The rune in the RIGHT slot will add 50% of its time duration to the finished rune
  • Keep adding the new "augmented" rune to the LEFT slot and adding one more small rune each time
  • The % chance of success will get lower and lower, once it gets below 50% you'll start wasting a lot of gold
  • Use the luck spheres when your frustration level starts mounting and don't even try the 5% chance of combing without luck spheres

"Perfect" Rune example: 60% 15 Days

  • This will cost ~200k in gold
  • Craft up exactly 20 small runes
  • Combine the runes in sets of two - you will have 10 augmented small runes of 6%
  • Combine augmented runes in pairs again - you will have 5 runes of 12%
  • Combine until you have 2 runes of 24% and 1 rune of 12%
  • Add the 12% to a 24% rune - keep the large (24%) rune in the LEFT slot
  • Add the 24% to your 36% rune - keep the large (36%) rune in the LEFT slot

"Cheap" Combo Rune example: 30% Mana / 10% Gem 10 days

  • This will cost ~27k in gold
  • You will need at least one of each of these recipes: Large Dust recipe, Large Rune recipes, Grand Rune recipe
  • Make 2 Grandest Runes and 1 Large Rune of choice (2 Grandest Mana / 1 Large Gems for this example)
  • Go to the combining station and combine the two grandest runes ($11025 per attempt)
  • You will get an "augmented" rune
  • Put the augmented rune in the LEFT slot and add in another rune in the RIGHT slot ($15435 per attempt)
  • The rune in the LEFT slot is the main rune - it will keep 100% of its time duration
  • The rune in the RIGHT slot will add 50% of its time duration to the finished rune.

Developer's Guide to Disenchanting
by Justin Stocks

Cut and Pasted (with permission) from a discussion with a Dev

When you disenchant a rune, two things are important: the quality of the rune (a number between 1 and 20), and the effects on the rune.

The quality is important for determining roughly how many dusts you're going to get. The higher the quality, the more dusts you've got a shot at getting. In general, the quality of a small rune is 1, a medium rune is 2, and a large rune is 4. Some of the crafted runes have higher or lower quality scores. Combining two runes simply combines their quality score. If you combine two large runes, you get a rune with a quality of 8. If you combined that rune with a medium rune (2), you'd have a rune with a quality of 10. You could potentially get 10 small dusts out of that combined rune, but it would likely be less (see below).

The rune effects determine (to a certain extent) which dusts you get. Generally whatever dusts go into making a rune with a certain effect, those are the dusts you'll get out. The rare dusts, however, can potentially come out of a any rune with a quality of 2 or higher. When disenchanting, the server eats away at the quality of a rune one point at a time, seeing if each quality should give a dust. For each 1 quality eaten, you have a roughly 50% chance of getting a small dust based on the rune effects. If your rune has 2 or more quality left, you have a roughly 25% chance of getting any of the four rare dusts, at the cost of 2 quality. Runes must always disenchant into at least one powder.

That last bit is a little confusing, so let me give you an example. Let's say you disenchanted that 10 quality rune that you combined earlier. And let's say that all three runes you combined had different effects - plus mana odds, plus power odds, and plus max energy. Here is the logic loop it would go through:

10 quality left -> 2+ quality 25% rare? -> no -> 50% powder? -> yes -> possible powders: blue, red, green, white -> red powder -> -1 quality

9 quality left -> 2+ quality 25% rare? -> yes -> possible powders: black, white, light gray, dark gray -> dark gray powder -> -2 quality

7 quality left -> 2+ quality 25% rare? -> no -> 50% powder -> no -> -1 quality

6 quality left -> 2+ quality 25% rare? -> no -> 50% powder -> no -> -1 quality

5 quality left -> 2+ quality 25% rare? -> yes -> possible powders: black, white, light gray, dark gray -> dark gray powder -> -2 quality

3 quality left -> 2+ quality 25% rare? -> no -> 50% powder? -> yes -> possible powders: blue, red, green, white -> blue powder -> -1 quality

2 quality left -> 2+ quality 25% rare? -> no -> 50% powder? -> no -> -1 quality

1 quality left -> 2+ quality 25% rare? -> no -> 50% powder? -> yes -> possible powders: blue, red, green, white -> green powder -> -1 quality

0 quality left -> gave at least 1 powder? -> yes

Powders: red, dark gray x2, blue, green

That got a little longer winded than I intended it to. Hopefully you got something out of all that and can translate it into something suitable for the wiki. :p

Cheers,
- Justin Stocks
